1 Billion Sales During October Golden Week

If you have no idea about golden week, let me walk you through. In China, there are two one week long holidays beside Chinese New Year: Labor Day (May 1), and China’s National Day (1 Oct).

According to Taobao.com’s research, consumers in China bought 1 billion yuan (about 133 million USD) during this National Day golden week (Oct 1-Oct 7). The most popular products are still electronic products especially mobile phones. Top-up card for prepaid phone is also hot this year.

On Taobao.com, China’s biggest C2C platform, the most popular products are audio books. 180,000 books were sold during the 7 days with sales of 13 million Chinese yuan (USD$1.7 million). However, in Shanghai’s largest book store, the books sales are up to 9 milllion yuan (US$1.2m) in 7 days.

I would not like to travel anywhere in China because it’s crowded every where during Golden Week. Going abroad is a better option if it’s affordable.

This is top 10 sold products during the National Day Golden Week:

  1. Mobile phone: 95 million
  2. Top-up Card (phone): 43 million
  3. Cosmetics: 40 million
  4. Laptop: 36 million
  5. Female Clothing: 36 million
  6. Electronics accessories: 34 million
  7. Computer hardware: 28 million
  8. Sports and Fitness products: 22 million
  9. Automobile accessories: 21 million
  10. Food: 8 million
