The economy in China is booming. But, there are still lots of people living with very low income. And, there are loads of people who are not satisfied with their current career situation.
Getting a satisfying job is hard. Among my high school classmates who have already worked for 3 years, most of them are not happy with the current job or company. Most of them just do what they do because they don’t know a way to get a better job.
Online Job Search
How about search jobs online? You can find an Internet cafe within 5 minutes’ walk anywhere in the city. And, there are many job searching websites. Let’s take a look at what the search engines say first.
- Google.cn: the top paid search results on keyword “job search” (in Chinese) would show up:
- Ganji.com: this is a free classified websites since 2005 who partners with Google.
- ChinaHR.com: set up in1997 and Monster invested 50 million US dollars in April 2005.
- ZhaoPin.com: founded in 1997 from a head hunting company called Alliance
- 51Job.com is another one I want to mention as it’s one of the well known brands. It’s listed in NASDAQ stock exchange.
- Baidu.com
- ZhaoPin.com (”zhaopin” is Chinese pinyin which means “recruitment” in English)
- 51Job.com
- ChinaHR.com
“internet job search” is a very big market. However, the current ones don’t work quite well. The reason is very simple. From the feedback of many friends in China, the success rate of job search online is very low. Not only them but also their friends failed to get a job online. The current models don’t work.
What’s New In Online Job Search
“Zhi Ke” (pinyin; Zhi means career, and Ke means guest/people”) is recently very hot in China. The story began from a guy who makes a living by helping interior decoration here and there. There are lots of people doing this. So, getting one job is very hard. He started blog asking for help to get a job. Surprisingly, he got one after another. And, he is now popular and stops worrying about getting a job.
Soon afterwards, lots of people start doing pretty much the same thing. It seems that some individuals are willing to pay a very high price (as high as 4000 USD) to get a job in a favored company or industry. Besides, many Chinese bloggers begin offering job referral service asking for a commission which is usually lower than the salary. Though, there are some asking for very high permissions.
Then, we see job portal setting up and trying to follow the trend. It would certainly show the negative aspects of this way of job search when it gets too popular. Especially there are serious security concerns and lots of scam could happen.
