What’s The Difference Between Facebook and MySpace for Marketers?

July 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Marketing Management ·

I came across a very good article from BusinessWeek.com, “MySpace, Facebook: A Tale of Two Cultures” which compared this two popular social networking sites. Here are some findings from this article:

  • Unique users logged in last month
    • MySpace: 68 million
    • Facebook: 26 million
  • Age group
    • MySpace: more than 50% are 35 and above; 18-24 make up only 17%
    • Facebook: older users make up 40% and college students 29%
  • Income Group
    • MySpace: three lowest income brackets are overrepresented there
    • Facebook: the three highest income groups dominate
  • How Users Present Themselves
    • MySpace: there is an understood degree of fantasy involved
    • Facebook: more controlled and polite
